Very often, when there are problems of plaster detachment with the presence of saltpeter, we always think of a superficial and passing problem, with the ponderal method we can verify the state directly inside the masonry.
This allows you to choose which solution is most suitable for solving the problem.
Furthermore, in the event of intervention with a chemical barrier, it allows to keep the humidity level under control during the drying phase (approximately 3 cm thick per side per month in optimal conditions).

1 THE WITHDRAWAL
We take samples of
dust of the wall structure, through simple holes of 10-12mm diameter, weighing the same with a thermogravimetric balance.
2 THE ANALYSIS
The samples taken are weighed immediately after extraction and subsequently dried at a temperature of 105 ± 5 °C until mass constancy is reached and then reweighed.

3 THE REPORT
The data is entered on the report and map of the withdrawal points.
THE EXAMPLE
Rising damp is checked through several holes drilled vertically and the result, under normal conditions, should be a continuous decrease in the values towards the top of the wall.
While if in a basement the humidity values inside the masonry do not decrease with increasing height,
it is probable that in addition to the ascent, there are absorptions from the surrounding terrain.
In the case instead of "dry" values inside a wet masonry on the surface, almost certainly it will not be a question of rising damp, but more likely, of absorption of environmental humidity.
